Ikem Isiekwena is a Partner at SimmonsCooper Partners where he leads the Competition Law, Mergers & Acquisition and Private Equity Practice Groups.
Ikem was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2004. Ikem holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from the University of Benin and a postgraduate Diploma in Economics for Competition Law from Kings College London. He is also an MBA Alumnus of Robert Kennedy College, Switzerland.
Ikem has extensive experience covering commercial law and has provided transaction advisory services across a wide range of corporations having served as Lead Counsel on large ticket transactions covering project finance, oil and gas, real estate, energy and power, financial services, and private equity. Ikem has consistently provided pioneer advisory, consultative and scholarly resources to support the development of various aspects of Consumer Protection and Competition/Anti-trust law in Nigeria. Notably, Ikem is a lead World Bank Consultant supporting the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) on drafting and developing Nigeria’s competition law framework and has conducted a series of capacity-building assistance to the staff of the FCCPC on the substantive aspects of the new Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act as well as the Regulator’s responsibilities.
He is a member of some professional bodies including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the International Bar Association where he actively participates in the Committee on Antitrust and Competition law. Ikem was also recently appointed as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority by President Muhummadu Buhari. This appointment is a testament to Ikem’s expertise and excellence in the legal industry.
